Annoying neighbor kids GGRR!

OK, this thread was really funny! (the kill em thing was a little harsh though)

I also have annoying neighbor kids and dogs. I can relate. The "adults" that live next door are worse than the children! I guess not everyone can be perfect like us chicken folk!!

sorry to hear that angie,,,i would hate to hate my neighbors,,,,we had a few girls come over around sept, and they came a few days in a row,,,,but luckily they went away on their own.....but they liked chasing chickens,,,,,and my little oe bantam liked chasing them back,,,,,,so maybe that was what sent them on their way,,,i had a 4 yr old girl wonder over to chase birds,,,and i took her to her house knocked on her mothers door and explained that she crossed a bad street to get here,,,,,and her mother,,,with child on hip ,,,said ,,i told her to stay around front of the house,,,,,!!! 4 yr old here,,,,hello lady,,,,i would have been the one to feel bad that my animals drew her across the street,,,she didnt even know to look both ways....

Could be time for a good hedge of Pyracantha coccinea bush. Firethorn, red berries all winter and really big thorns.
Other backyard gardeners, might have other suggestions.

This is a great idea. I had a friend who did the hedge of Pyrachantha which grows very fast and it worked wonders with the neighbors coming in his yard. You may also want to get some No Trespassing signs and post on the property line so that is clearly marked.

Post some "No Trespassing" signs ASAP to help prevent you from liability if something were to happen to those kids on your property and to clarify the property line.

I love the idea of planting thorny bushes too-if we ever get a subdivision in the field behind & beside us, I'm planting every thorny shrub along the property line that I can get my hands on!

NO WAY! Oh my gosh. Wow, I'd hate to see the day some kid tried to ride one of my ponies...they wouldn't get very far. Neither are broke!!

Seriously, someone could get hurt!! I second (third, fourth??) turning on the fence--but first you really need to post No Trespassing signs and Electric Fence signs. Then there is no question that they knew/were told that your property was off-limits! Tell them that the fence will shock/hurt them before you turn it on. Then if it's still a problem, call the police and have them talk to the parents--have them tell them that you are very concerned for the kids' safety, what with your animals and all.

I would be careful how I phrased it about my animals. If you indicate that the animals are a danger then you could be sued if the kids do get hurt. As stupid as it is, you might get hit with knowingly having dangerous animals. And yes, I agree that it is totally stupid if the animals are on your property and the little snots are trespassing. But there is some precedence for this. My insurance claims manager dad always referred to stuff like that as "an attractive nuisance". Things like pools, tampolines, etc all fall under that category. If a kid climbs your fence, swims in your pool without permission and gets hurt (or drowns!), you as the pool owner could still be held liable. All thanks to our screwy judicial system and the decline of personal responsibility!
Just be careful how you phrase it.

Same deal on the electric fence. I knew a little punk that got his finger pinched off in an automatic gate that was well back on private property and his no account mom sued the company and won! Nevermind that her 6 year old was working as a runner for a gang and that they were trespassing, breaking in and stealing stuff at this business. And nevermind that her 6 year old was out running the streets in the middle of the night. Nope. She and the kid made quite a bit of money off of it. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Protect yourself wisely.
Good luck!

WHAT?!? You've got to be kidding. I can't believe that even after the kid was breaking into places and stealing stuff, his mom and him still won. That's ridiculous. Parents need to take control of their kids. When I'm an adult, all the other adults around me are going to be horrible. I'm not looking forward to adulthood.
