Does anyone else keep track of the number of eggs they get per year? 2008 was the first time I've done this and with 3 chickens I got 747 eggs (give or take, I'm certain I made the occasional error in recording). I thought that was pretty good. Post your 2008 egg count, and number of chickens here. I'd love to know what other people are getting.

I got 12 eggs in 2008... but my three hens didn't start laying until Christmas Day!

Well, my hens began laying last September, so I only have an egg count for the last 4 months of 2008.

That being said, I received 1,047 eggs from 17 hens.

There's probably already a fancy name for the eggs per chicken per day ratio, but I like crunching numbers and thought this would be fun. Here's the formula I just made up:

(Total # of Eggs) / (# of Hens) / (# of Laying Days)
It comes out looking like a baseball hitting average where 1.000 would mean that every chicken was laying one egg every day.

Some examples -

annmarie:
747 / 3 / 365 = .628

MicMoo:
12 / 3 / 7 = .571

ChickenToes:
1047 / 17 / 120 = .513

Some of the Leghorn folks on here are probably hitting in the .900's! What's your number?

I have 4 chickens, only three laid in 2008. they began in October and November.

Totals:
October (2 laying): 36 eggs
November (2.5 laying): 60 eggs
December (3 laying): 72 eggs

So 168 eggs in three months. In my "garden" journal I didn't write #eggs per girl per month until December. Here are the numbers for that month

Victoria (BR): .839

Frodette (EE): .742

L.C. (EE): .742

Yay, not bad! Hopefully they keep it up.

My 5 girls gave me 402 eggs in 2008 - the first egg was laid on July 14th, and the others all joined the game within 2 weeks after that.

I didn't start keeping track until Jan. 2 this year. 108 eggs, 20 pullets, 11 days. .49 eggs per day per pullet. I like this number better - 108 eggs/11 days = 9.8 eggs per day
