In defense of some of us EZbyc members who are "trying" to deal with the NEW byc i have to say a few things. First of all, there were things said before this board HERE was set up that are no longer present..or have been edited. We also had a big "get together" in chat to have a discussion about all this before it came into play, yet all remains to be seen. There are a few mods and several members that spend a lot of lengthy hours helping other members with problems and issues. Myself, i've been at byc for nearly 4 yrs and frankly didn't plan on moving anywhere although will leave it open. What disturbs me is when i did come over here when this did "open" is BAM! full of members who knew nothing of the original community..or so it seemed. Nobody is picking on rob or the way he runs the board.

To throw my 2 cents worth in...
This forum website is fabulous right now, as it is, period.
If more stuff is to come, so be it. But I am grateful it is here, that so many hard working volunteers make it possible, and that Nifty-Chicken devotes his time and heart to make it run.
Shame on anyone who criticizes because they want this or that. I don't know your 'other' board, and there is an enormous number of members here who never used the 'other' board. I understand it had flaws and it was/is failing. If you elected to come to this one, then be accepting of the fact that you will have to make adjustments in what to expect. This board is not the 'other' board.
Those who complain of ads popping up, check with your server, not the chickenmaster. I don't have the problem you describe, and very few have complained of this.
Those who don't check their email daily, and insist on having PM. Adjust. Learn to check your email daily.
If you want to chat with a bunch of people, go find a free chatroom on the internet, or pick up the phone.
Basically, be patient. Stop expecting this website to be the 'other' website. It isn't and won't be.
This website is to learn, advice, and support folks who are raising chickens. Let it remain so. It is not for backbitting, grump or bellyaching about what you want.
I think it terrific to post your suggestions for improvements or changes, but be patient for them to happen, or just plain adjust if they don't.
Be nice to the people who are working so hard to make this the great site it is. Nobody pays them for their time and commitment, and they don't deserve your badgering because you can't get your way right now because you want it.
OK, maybe that was 3 cents worth...

Okay rude people, i didn't say anything that implies that i can do better. It's a feedback forum, and we've had plenty coming over to the OTHER board trying to get us to MIGRATE over here. If you don't have the decency to be nice, how do you expect to get people over here unless you feel like you have enough in YOUR community..that's my bellyaching, bi##hing and pi$$ing for the moment..who really pi$$ed in your post toasties. Furthermore..i wasn't the one who participated in the sick hen drama, nor did i send porno pics to someone..i probably devote 3 hours per day helping others from seperate boards, maintain a website and manage another ezboard..don't have time for the nonsense. No need for me to be back either place..disgusting! *where's the gag emoticon* talk about shame on you!

Wow.....that took an ugly turn.

Let me just say as a total newbie to this board, but an old pro on other boards, that this board is super friendly and the search feature is great!! The individual catagories make it super easy for me to spend my time in the areas that most apply to me, and the moderators and Nifty Chick seem to have a great handle on keeping things wonderful!

I have had no experience on the EZ board, but feel grateful that I found you guys!

The only thing that might be helpful is a more comprehensive FAQ section for newbies, maybe including links to forum discussions on the various newbie topics (how to set up a brooder, medicated feed or not, what age to sex chicks, blah, blah, blah). I HATE it when I post a typical newbie question, and so usually use the *fabulous* search feature, but know that many new to boards in general aren't as........ummm.......embarassed to be annoying.

Again, great job with the site!!!!!

I think all of us are a little wary of change that we did not choose or impose. I know I am. And I know that most of us also have our own priorities and needs--so it's tough to understand how someone else's could be different, and there's the temptation to just barrel forth with your own and say,"Are you crazy? Why don't you do it this way?" That's a human nature sort of thing. (Naturally, the world would be a MUCH better place if *I* were in charge of changes, you see, but *I* am the exception to the rule... LOL)

The key is to temper the push for our own priorities and needs with an appreciation for what's already been accomplished. Just as an example, when I'm passing on a brochure to be proofed, often the only feedback is "Can we make this font bigger?" or "Can we use this other picture?" as opposed to "Wow! The layout is great, and I love the color scheme.... the theme is just fabulous. The only request I have is... " Constructive criticism is a good thing, don't get me wrong. But it can be awfully easy to slide into mostly criticism and very little construction if we're not careful.

It can also be a bad idea to simply presume that everyone has the same priorities that you do when it come to this site. As Mudhen said, I think the site is wonderful as it is. And personally, I LOVE the idea of personal areas on BYC, and I could give you a long list of reasons why I can see a lot more functionality in that than in some of the other requests I've seen. Naturally, you'd explain why you differ. There would be discussions as to the opportunity cost of pursuing one over the other, and one hopes the discussions would remain friendly rather than rancorous, but meanwhile, either our volunteers' time would be split trying to develop both projects equally, neither one would get developed until a firm decision had been made, or we could have what (I would guess?) has been happening now: that they're trying their best to respond to requests based on what they thinks they can get done weighed against the perceived workload in an informal sort of way.

My point is just that if 95% of a given project is wonderful, it can be discouraging to the people who are working on it only to hear the nitpicky complaints, constructive or not, when they're couched in such a way that the implication is that there's only one way to approach the problem. It's important to tune the finer points of the issues, mind you--I'm not saying we should all hold our tongues and only sing sweetness and light. However, I think it's important to share concerns with a great deal of feeling and appreciation for the effort that's gone into it so far, without making comparative judgments (at least publicly) about which parts of a problem a volunteer can dedicate time to.

Again, all this would be a moot point if *I* were in charge of the world, I assure you.
