Another antique bator find.

Thats interesting. Ive never seen one like that (but then again, I wouldnt have known what I was looking at. New to chickens, hatching, bators.=-)

I see those with some regularity at auctions and antique shops and so forth. They are not as rare or desired as some might think. In this part of the world I have seen them sell at auction for under 50 bucks. I think they are a bit tricky to use obviously and not real functional as a piece of furniture

I always wondered how the kerosine heaters worked in those old Incubators without the soot and fumes harming the eggs, then again if I was able to see one first hand I may be able to understand it. Koool Bator though.

There is a vent that creates air flow through the incubator. As you can see the heat source is on the outside. I would guess they still got plenty of kerosene dosage. They must have made very certain the exhaust did not get inside. You would think the carbon monoxide would get them pretty quick.

I am shocked that they didnt burn down more buildings with those old kerosene heaters. My father used those still heaters in water tanks for pigs. You would have thought with all the straw bedding and so forth it would have been very sketchy
