Another con with State testing in schools

I never minded the testing, but the kids montessori school does no prepping at all. I like that they are just tested and we see how they do.I just remind them that this is just one test on one day,and on another day they might have done better or worse. If there WAS prepping I would be mad.

As for the abusing the system that reminds me last week when I was at the grocery I have $10 left to spend on food. I got mostly fruit and veggies. The couple(30's and looking well healthwise) had a bill of over $100,and all they got were meatsNothing but meats fresh cut from the meat department.Paid for it with their welfare card. I am not saying they did not deserve their food stamps, but I could not help but think that if dh just made 5k less we could be eating steaks and ribs too, because we would then be considered poor. Oh well I guess the fruit and veggies are better anyway.

That is so sad about the well off mom letting her son starve and freeze. Some people.

Here is the biggest problem with people who abuse the system. The vast majority really don't care if their kids get lunch or not anyway! My kids used to go to school with a little boy who was hungry a LOT, was always freezing in the winter (I actually made my kid give him his coat one day because I knew he'd survive one day without it). His mother drove a nice car, wore the best clothes, the newest cell phone. It was sick. So, if it takes a govermnemt program that many resent for the ones who abuse it to feed that child, I guess I just can't complain. We send extra money with our kids because at our school, once they are $7.50 in the hole, middle school and above kids do NOT eat ANYTHING! I can't even sleep if I worry a kid went hungry my kid could have slipped $3 to and let eat! When these abused government programs get cut, the lazy parents don't suffer. The innocent kids do. There is no happy medium.

It's funny that I've been commenting on this thread, because a not-so-funny real life situation occurred here at home.

My wife and I just sent $10 with our oldest daughter so she could put it on a neighbor's lunch card. And this student's mother NEVER misses "Thirsty Thursday" at the local bar. Despite all of my tough talk and being fed up with the situation, I still had to do what's right, as I know everyone here would.

I'm still mad at the system and certain parents though!
