This year the brainiacs at the kids school decided that they were instituting mandatory before school tutoring for the TAKS test (Texas state tests). If the student misses a session they are given detention. Detention is going to tutoring after school. Excuse me but if the teachers can't teach what the students need to know to pass the test during the regular school day which here is from 8:20 to 3:55 they don't deserve to be teachers in the first place. Since when can they institute mandatory off school hours attendance and mandatory punishment if one session is missed especially without informing the parents of their intent first. As tired as I am of the issue of homework the things that are on the test need to be taught in class as well and homework can be given to help cover those things along with their other assignments. If something is done before or after hours it is extra curricular and OPTIONAL. Detention is for bad behavior not for not attending something that is not during school hours.
