Another coop build

Figured I would go ahead and document my coop and run build here. We had an existing pen for some type of animals that the previous home owner had. I decided to use that space for the coop and run. The coop is inspired by a youtube video from third coast craftsman. I took some measurements and built a model in sketchup. I got the floor framed up yesterday. Always a little more difficult when retrofitting to an existing structure that is weathered. Pretty much have to custom measure each piece. Still a fun project, though.

It's looking great! Are you going to allow the birds to hang out underneath? Or use that area for storage? I have the 3rd Coast Craftsman plans myself (haven't build yet, though). It's a very nice blueprint to springboard off of!

So I'm not sure what type of animal the previous home owners had in this run, but the run is full of wood mulch like the picture. Think I should clear this out? I see no traces of animal droppings.

If I might provide some input, I recommend some sort of removeable mat. We used to have a painted floor and had a vinyl faux tile flooring that came in a thin mat style but would tear. Now we have a thicker rubber mat that keeps in place and doesn't rip which protects the wood below. Plus it is easy to remove if needing to clean under.

Also, what program did you do your plans on?

Nice looking mulch, how long ago was it that animals were last there (if you happen to know?) On one hand I'd be tempted to clear it out "just in case" and then replace it with similar, but on the other if there is any bacteria, parasites, etc. it's probably in the soil too so removing the mulch is only going to go so far.
