Hi! *waves* I'm Peggy a new chick mama! I titled my post "Another Crazy Chicken Lady" because my hubby and teenage sons keep saying I'm a crazy chicken lady. I've never been an animal person and we've pretty much been without traditional pets because of asthma and allergies in our family. I've been thinking about the idea of having chickens for well over a year now after a friend of mine got a few baby chicks to raise and made it seem like such an easy thing to do. I could see many benefits, the main one being fresh healthy eggs. I decided to get a little more serious about the idea and do some research and discovered many more benefits including the opportunity to expose my kids to raising their own food and just giving them a new experience. I took the leap and am now the proud owner of 7 chicks, each one a different breed! 6 of them are about 5 weeks old and the 7th one is about 3 weeks old now. They have been so much fun! I had no idea I would actually fall in love with them. My husband thinks it's silly to consider a chicken a pet, but that is what this has become in a very short time. I have 5 sons. The 3 younger ones aged 9, 7 and 4 are having an absolute ball with these chicks! Personally I find it relaxing to just sit and watch them and talk to them. I've checked out tons of books from the library and have read a lot of information online. Right now I'm trying to make a final decision on coop design. I'm glad to have a place to come and talk about my new found love for chickens! In a million years I never would have guessed it would be so much fun!
