Hello all from sunny Nanaimo, BC!
One day last summer, I let my dog out to pee. She was acting weird and shortly after going outside she plunked her butt down and started to whimper and bark lightly. She began to nose under a bush. What did we find? A baby chick! A very injured, very scared very small baby chick. Fast forward about 3 months and she ended up passing away.
I began again this year. I purchased 2 hatches of 3 eggs each. The first batch was BCM's and we ended up with 1 female and 2 males. The second batch is Blue Orphington and we will have 2 girls in that group. I recently added 2 more females to join my BCM and they are Rhode Island Red and Barred Rock. (We are not allowed roosters.)
I built just about the entire coop on my own! I live in an area with a lot of predators and had decided to build a big coop and run, and will make a fun chicken tractor in the future. I will be sharing in the coop forum soon.
I found out about BYC last year and have been lurking like crazy! I finally joined today
We have 4 cats and a dog as well as our chickens. We would have move animals if we had the space! I love animals and gardening. I would love to own a farm one day!
I hope I wont bother eveyone with questions, and hope to be able to help others one day
