Hi,
I just got my DE and the duster and will be sharing extensively with my mom and aunt and was wondering if anyone wears a dust mask when dusting? From the description, I would think that it would be an asbestos type of irritant if inhaled? And, then it makes me worry about my chicken babies and dogs...

Any input? How do you guys apply it? Or can someone direct me to a thread that could answer my question? Thanks!!!!!

I just pull my shirt up over my nose when I dusted the coop, and had all the chickens outside. after it settled, I turned on the fan, and cleared the air, before letting them back in. Im not sure if or how dangerous it is to breath in, I just dont want to take a chance.

I read on another thread it is ill advised to inhale de. I use one of those white masks when I apply it heavily or stir it around inside the coop.

The first time I used mine....I didnt use a mask...or my shirt. Let me tall ya, that stuff is salty! LOL I have upper respiratory problems...and just didnt think it would be safe. When I dusted the dogs...I know I inhaled ALOT. That was Monday...and today...Saturday, I can feel the heaviness in my chest. I am just going to be safe rather than sorry.
