I've posted here before about finding a hen dead in the coop with no signs of predation or mites. Always fine without signs of illness. It happens every 1 to 2 months and I've lost 7 hens in the past 8 months. Yesterday I collected eggs at 7pm while the girls were out free ranging and everyone appeared fine. They went in the coop about 7:45 and I went to lock them in, found another one dead under the roost. Every single one I have found has been under the roost in the same spot. Do they fall off and break their necks? It just seems too coincidental! These are all about 1 yr old now. Just confusing!

sorry to hear

do you have a vet where you could get a necropsy done?

I had a problem with my juvies getting their heads stuck behind a nest box, I lost 2 beautiful chickens due to them breaking their necks.
They were stuck in position though, so I KNEW what happened...
It's not warm enough in Indiana for snakes yet, is it?

How high is the roost?

Can you post a pic of the inside of your coop? Maybe that would help.
