I've been given some duck eggs for free to incubate (the OH is thrilled he's wanted ducklings for years!!) I've also scheduled another chicken hatch. I understand humidity and incubation days are different but has anyone just set them as normal and hatched successfully both types?

Hi there
smile.png

we just had a hatch of mixed chickens, bantams and runner ducks, which went great. Only thing we did is try to set all eggs to hatch at the same time(we did have dividers between each batch) and mist the duck eggs once a day-we made sure not to get any water on the other eggs though. Didn't seem to cause any problem having all together, but i know some people don't always recommend it. The ducks ended up hatching day 26, so we got them out once they fluffed up-luckily the other eggs hadn't pipped. All hatched without any help and all are very healthy.
Good luck with your hatch!

so If I put a divider with tin foil between them it'll make sure they all get the same heat and then spray the duck eggs lightly each day. I've read like lots of things two sides of it some saying no way and some saying yes no problem. I'll give it a go and see how we do. I have a broody bantam and am wondering wether to set the duck eggs under her instead but my friend said she won't stay on them long enough but she's been broody for about a month now with eggs that didn't turn into anything. What do you think?

We just divided with cardboard but tin foil will probably help-just spray once a day....although if you have a broody, I would probably let her take care of it-they will sit long enough. Depends on how many eggs you have too, because you might wanna try both?what duck eggs have you got?

I already have chicken eggs for her. I'm doing a bit of a hatch-a-thon. They are runners x with something I can't remember now. quite large eggs and I have 9 so my bantam will struggle to sit on them all. We will just wait and see I think and do what you suggested. Its all so exciting and gets a bit OCD (obsessive chicken disorder) with hatching. I love turning them everyday and watching the red blobs spider across the egg and what it move as it gets bigger!!
