Looks like my 4 BSL's are all starting to lay.
#1 laid this first "real" egg on Sunday after laying 2 "poopy" soft eggs on Friday.
Not to be outdone, one of her sisters laid this today, sometime between 1 and 4 during our daily storm.
Interesting that one is speckled and dark brown and one is a light brown with no specks. Both were med-large size and hard shelled. We ate the one Sunday morning for breakfast and it was the best egg we have ever eaten. Saved the one late today for tomorrow morning's breakfast hoping hen #1 will lay another one and we can each have an egg. Hens 3 & 4 were also squawking and carrying on today but didn't know if it was because they were locked in run all day due to rain or because they were going to lay. When I checked after the storm someone had laid the egg.
This is so fun. Question - does it get boring and tedious after everyone starts laying and you have to go gather eggs each day? I have a younger batch of 4 EEs that are a month younger than my BSL and a batch of 4 Buff Orps that are only a month old. I'm wondering if it will become a job when all 13 hens start laying daily? Doesn't matter - it's so fun now. I'm like a kid on an Easter Egg hunt each day.
