Another Foreclosure question.....

Quote:
Start with the department that has jurisdiction in your area. Tell them that your neighbors have seen a law enforcement vehicle sitting in your driveway, but you're not sure which agency it was, and you're curious as to who it may have been and what their business was.

And if you can't get though on the phone, just go down there. If they will not answer, just go visit with the locals......

Chances are the cops in the driveway have nothing to do with the foreclosure. It could be a case of mistaken indentity and they are trying to serve someone with a warrant. If it were me, I would go down to the police department in person and ask to speak with a detective. If you are not sure whether it is the police department or sheriff's department, go visit both.

Wouldn't that be great! Heh!

I think I'm going to leave a note (and no, not a threatening one, or harsh, just a polite "Sorry we've missed you, and if it's for the house, here's the lawyer, and if you need to speak to us, we're home during evenings." I'll try to call the court house this time during work hours, maybe they can transfer me to whoever needs to be talked to - I'm not sure I want to take time off work to drive out there, especially if it's something that we don't even need to bother about.

Dunkopf - the finance company is just....ugh. I wouldn't be surprised if they jacked up the process, which is why I want to know why the police are here.

The police involvement is odd, to say the least. Foreclosures are civil, police are criminal. Friend of mine had police parked in his driveway for weeks. Turned out they wanted to serve him with a warrant for some unpaid traffic tickets. He thought the matter had been taken care of but it hadn't. The funny thing is while the police were parked at his house in California, he was going up and down the Atlantic seaboard in a big truck. He spent that whole summer traveling with his buddy who was a long distance truck driver. He didn't get back to California until long after the police had given up. By the way, the guy's sister was staying in the house. She worked during the day, but had they left her a note, she could have told them her brother wasn't there. If they had told her why they were there, the matter would have been taken care of months before it was. Since she was gone all day, she didn't know about the cops either until a neighbor got around to telling her.
