Another hatching idea...

This just occured to me. We have a couple of hens that are broody. Lockdown is supposed to be Sunday. Instead of going into lockdown, would it be a bad thing to take a bunch of the eggs and stick them under the broody hens? It would seem to me to be a win/win situation. The hens could regulate all the last minute problems normally associated with hatching eggs and they wouldn't have to sit for 3 weeks. Of course I couldn't do that with all 39 eggs...maybe just 10 apiece...but it would be interesting to see which get the better hatch.

Comments?

I would give it a try. I was just noticing today that my broodies chicks seem to be much more at ease in the world than the ones in my brooder. I would let her raise them too.

I might give it a try with a few eggs, leaving the rest in the incubator. If the hen isn't broody or decides she doesn't want to hatch the eggs you haven't lost the whole lot.
