Hi- I'm new to chickens this year- I've been lurking on this site for months and it has been a wonderful resource.
I've now got 2 Australorps, 2 Partridge Rocks, 2 EE, 1 Silver Laced Wyanadotte, 1 Buff Orpington. I started with 10 in April, lost 5 to a dog massacre (boy did I want to delurk then and sob my heart out on this forum), and added 3 after the massacre.
I'm a fishery biologist who retired with her family to Oregon for the great gardening.
When I started this chicken project, I was just thinking eggs and organic fertilizer. I had no idea how amusing they'd be. Ours are partially cooped and partially free-ranged over a fenced acre and we so enjoy watching them.
Thanks SO much for all the helpful posts over the past months.
