i let my birds out at sunrise, within an hour, im out changing water, empty all jugs, spray down, and refill,,, then after i make my rounds doing that,( i have 13 pens now) i do the feed. if its really hot here, they get a water change around 3 pm when its the hottest here,, when the winds blowing ( almost EVERY day here ) in the afternoon i change water again, cause of all the blowing sand,,,, then around 4pm, i take out a bucket of table scraps ( BIG bucket) go to the feed bin, mix in some seed,, and make my rounds feeding them all "dinnah"....

Oooops, PS, what part of TX are you in and what part of ME did you leave? I wonder cuz I was hatched in MA and traveled somewhat in ME before shipping west. Thinking I may someday head for San Antonio area if the 'Seattle Freeze' keeps getting worse. THEN I will FINALLY have the space to get a rooster! Wooo-Hooooooooooo!

use to live in the bah-habah ( bar harbor) area in maine,, acadia national park area,,, now im in west texas, odessa

...and,,, wouldnt every guy throw away a wife for a rooster

I would hate to see his honey do list.

I have very little chicken experience, but have been married twice. I just wonder if the poor guy isn't just over worked.

How would another rooster add to the mix?

I can't speak for every guy (cuz I'm not a guy) and I never had a wife myself but I think if I did ever have one, and she would cook and clean, I would likely keep her and the roo would be going to capon city!

As stated before...protein is too low. I jacked my girls' protein up and the feather picking stopped.

My poor little roo knows which girls to mess with and which to stay away from...I have some real man haters in my coop. If he goes anywhere near one of those girls...the rest of the group of man haters jump him.

The only purpose in feeding cracked corn, scratch and such is

1. great to give them in their run to give them something to scratch in

2. it will raise their body temp a bit so in the winter is not a bad additional treat/food; they still need their layer and protein

3. corn has very little nutritional value for them so it should be an add in or supplement not a food source
