I think the guy deserved what he got. He shouldn't have let his dog run loose to chase the kangaroo in the first place.

ETA: now if I could just teach my chickens to drown mean dogs and their owners.

Though OTOH, they were on their own property

Though OTOH, how well trained was the dog to obey commands?

Though OTOH, a lot of pet owners would try to save their pet.

I'm sure he was, but there is the thing that a dog will chase after something that looks fun. And the dog sounded as though he was next to the owner and then took off. If you were a dog and saw something jumping that looked fun...wouldn't you chase it?

But, the dog should have been on a leash, BUT the owner was on his property...

He was on his own farm.
I think it would be ridiculous to expect a farmer to keep his dog on a leash at all times on his own farm. For all we know it was the dog's job to chase kangaroos. The dog got into a bad situation and the owner went to save it. Can't fault him for that.

IMHO.... Why should the man be required to have his dog on a leash if he was on his property? Doesn't sound irresponsible at all to me. He was enjoying a walk on his own land with his dog...
