I tweeked mine for two whole weeks before putting eggs in mine. All seemed fine for the first week with temps between 97.5 and 101.2 then all of a sudden 104! Ahhhh! We are hoping that my wife caught it in time. I'm using a 25watt bulb and am thinking that it should be higher but I'll have to wait until this hatch is over before I go foolin around again. Listen to Miss Prissy and you should do okay. This is my first attempt. I put my eggs in on the 19th.

I would not recommend using the foam egg carton to hold the eggs... they need more air flow and the carton may cause them to suffocate.

I'd either lay them on their sides on a piece of cheapo rubber shelf liner and turn manually

OR cut holes in an egg carton all around the bottom so that they have more surface area exposed to the air.

Yea, I think thats the whole trick to it. Just keep tweeking and experimenting until you got it right. The hard part for me is going to be having the patience that requires. Hey worst case you guys get to see pictures of an incubator with an ax lodged in it.

. Not even close to that point yet. Still doing the fun part the tinkering. Today I got the electrical ready to hook up and got it all neat, mounted the therm outside with the sensor inside, drilled a couple vent holes, thought about putting in a couple small (2" 12v) fans in. One on either side to serve as a fresh air intake and exhaust. Might help regulate humidity. Still thinking, put a piece of insulation in and broke a sideing board. Thats when I quit. Gonna go back later.

I agree with you arlee. I don't like the foam cartons. Thats why that one is in the shop being used for measurement. I have the paper ones for my eggs. Thanks for the tip on cutting the cartons. I thought I had read that somewhere, but wasn't sure. You save me asking a question. Thanks.
