Another local ATV 4-wheeler death...

Accidents do happen. And anything can be unsafe if used improperly - bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, cars, dirt bikes, horses, motorcycles, and yes, ATVs. I know people with brain injuries from being thrown from horses, people (including me) who have rolled cars...my husband has a huge scar on his leg from going through a barbed wire fence when he came off an ATV as a young teenager. Crap happens.

Our 11 year old has been through and passed ATV safety training administered by the state DNR. He always wears a helmet, and he's a very good, very safe driver. Of course as he gets older he will be able to drive without supervision and off our property, but for now he just tools up and down the driveway and on our flat trails in the woods. Our thoughts on the matter are that we would rather have him be as safe as he can while he learns to ride rather than sneaking behind our backs to do it unsafely at a friend's house.
