Another new adventure

Welcome to BYC. The Sex Link are one of my favorite chickens. Egg laying machines. We also have a Barred Rock. She's really sweet but too big to preen her back side. About once every couple of weeks she gets a trip to the chick salon (me) for a butt wash and blow dry. She just turned out to be a big bird.

Thanks, everyone, for the warm welcome! We've had some bad weather lately, so the shipment to the co-op was delayed. And unfortunately, we struck out on our search for Buff Orpingtons. Maybe next year... We did make it home with some chicks from TSC though! Here are the babies on the ride home - we ended up with four straight-run Black Australorps and six Red Sex-Link pullets. They're so stinkin' cute!!

They're nice and warm in the tub now, and seem to have calmed down and settled in for the evening.

Congratulations! Both Black Australorps and Red Sex Links are excellent layers, and you're going to get loads of eggs from those girls.)

Thanks - I can't wait til our first eggs! My only fear is that we'll end up with four little black cockerels, since they only had straight-run in the Australorps. Hubby says we'll have four chicken dinners, but I say he'll be on the couch for four years! :p

You're welcome. Statistically speaking it should be about 50/50, but with straight run (especially small numbers like 4) you never know. Good luck in getting pullets.
