Another New Coop

Well CityChook, my chickens and I probably used to be only a half dozen miles from this new coop.

You are going to need to go some to have one as cute as your last one, AtholCoop. How did that one work out for you thru the summer?

If you need a coop as a model, I built one just off the Bunco Road . . . out of logs

! It was about the same size as your current coop but there wasn't any moving that thing around! It's probably still right where I left it . . . um, 30 some years ago. I didn't go far but portability wasn't built into that thing.

I've enjoyed watching your projects there in Athol. (Is this #3?) You do good work.

Good looking job. With one that size, you could add two drop-down wheels and tow it to wherever you want for, say a week or so, then move it when the grass gets thin. You could even do a pen tractor and take the coop to it to be attached after moving. Just separate at dusk when they are all inside. Then in AM, drag the pen to wherever, then wheel the coop there and re-attach it. Always fresh, live grass that way. Could likely stay 3 weeks or more in one spot if pen generous enough in size. Would not do tho unless I had a good dog to stay outside so no preds try to dig under edge of pen when I was not nearby.

That tractor worked good. I ended up building two of those, and another non tractor coop with a similar layout for a cow-orker so this is #5 I think.

I'm off of Old 95 1/2 mile north of Brunner (Bunco) road.

Been working on trimming this thing out...

First off the side with the nest box:

One of the four doors is done:

Detail of door construction:

Three more doors to go, then I need to build a cupola, roof, windows and then all the furniture.

Got some more work done last week.

These two doors will open up right behind the roost both windows are fixed:

You can also see the cupola which has a couple operating vents for venilation.

These two doors open up into the food/water area this window operates as needed for venilation:

And the pop door, I figured since it's open 90% of the time I ought to just treat it like a roof:

oh wow that is so cool! I love all the pictures you posted while working on it. I can't wait to show my husband, I bet he could make me a cute one...only in pink
