...am new to chicken ownership. Had no plans to to own chickens, but several weeks ago a Rhode Island Red hen adopted our family (wandered around our neighborhood for several weeks first). Then, I read that it isn't good to keep just 1. Fearing she would be lonely and cold as winter approached, we bought 2 more Reds, so now we have a flock of 3! I want to thank each and every one of you for this website. All of what I know right now to keep my chicks safe and warm this winter I learned from all of you, and for that I and my 3 Reds thank you! Am still awaiting my very first egg. Since I don't have a light in my coop, I fear it won't be until spring, but it will be worth the wait. Thanks again to all of you!
