Hi Y'all!! I'm new here. Just stumbled across this while looking for an explanation as to why my girls are laying some thin shelled eggs, and Oh My Gosh!! What a wealth of information and great people!!
I'm pretty sure I'll be a regular around here in no time. And here I thought I was the only one so completely crazy over chickens!!
Well, at least every one in my country neighborhood of Tyler, Washington thinks I am! Little do they know!
My husband Denny, our granddaughter Annie and I share a little over 10 acres with 12 chickens of various breeds, along with one dog and one cat. Amazingly enough, we all get along pretty well.
Our girls are a daily source of pride, love and entertainment. Not to mention EGGS!! If someone had told me three years ago that I'd be in love with CHICKENS, I'd have told them they were nuts!! Little did I know!!
We have two Buff Orpingtons, one Golden Brahma,(by accident) two Light Brahma's, four Golden Sexlinks and three Barred Rock. The Barred Rock are the most recent additions to the flock and I'm thinking I need to add a few more of this splendid breed next year. Truly a friendly bird.
Our girls are completely free range and have full run of the place. They're locked in for the night only for their own protection as coyotes are prevalent in the area.
I'm so glad I found this site. I'm really looking forward to meeting many of you. I just wish I had found y'all years ago. Much worry and concern for the welfare of our girls could have been avoided. Well, better late than never, huh?
Best Regards,
Amy ...aka... Serrin everywhere else on the internet!
