STAY OUT OF THE EMERGENCIES SECTION!! Trust me. Do not go there unless you have a chicken illness or injury or something about which to personally worry. I had nightmares after just reading a subject line that mentioned eye-worms. That was after I already obsessed about gape worm. Then bumblefoot surgery. Good lord, horrible things happen to chickens! <*shuddering*>
But that's not really true for many flocks. Mine has never suffered any of those 3 horrifically scary things. So, don't go there unless you have a need. Spend your "learning about chickens" time in Raising Baby Chicks, Egg-Laying and other Chicken Behavior, Feeding and Watering Your Flock, and of course, Pictures and Stories of My Chickens.
I'm so glad you decided to keep Martha. I think every flock should have a rooster. Or 12....
