Hello from Chicagoland! My town, Downers Grove, just changed the ordinance a few weeks ago, so now it's legal for me to have chickens!! My husband and I are in the very early stages, mostly just learning and researching right now. I'm a veterinarian, so planning on taking a class in backyard chickens this summer so I can treat my girls when I get them (which will be early spring 2015).

Can't wait to "meet" everyone!

Oh the possibilities now open for you!!! Glad you are learning about chickens. It is hard to find vets who have done much studying of fowl of any kind. When I was growing up, my dad raised birds of various kinds and had to learn to care for him himself since no vets around knew much about birds. In fact, one vet routinely called my dad when a feathered critter came through his door.

Once other chicken owners learn there is a vet in the know in your area, get ready for more business!!

I know! There are 6 of us at my clinic, and one other doc who sees chickens. It'd be fun to see another species, and to be a resource for other area chicken enthusiasts. :)
