Another no shell egg post

Many thanks silverfox. I am in Lancashire. I will hunt round for prices (am on a pension). Would not dream of using Pets at Home. Have been rescuing animals for over 40 years - my 2 dogs, 2 cats and hens are all rescues.

I use Masons feed from Lancashire

for you its will be Free Local Delivery over £25 purchase

and the bags are £9.50 per 25KG

http://www.happychicks.co.uk/mall/p...ts (feed for chickens / hens 14 weeks +) 25kg

Ask for Sarah and say Sarj (silverfox0786) from Slough recommended them (they know me by both names)

they are my regular supplier of POL feed and everything Bird related

My Ex bats are from her as well

and the jondo grit is from her aswell

although she only selld mixed grit not pure oyster but then that's good for the hens as too much calcium is not good

excellent small holding

Eggs with no shells can be caused by a few issues other than not enough calcium.

Bacterial or viral infections within the birds body can cause thin, mis-shapen and shelless eggs. The balance between phosphorus, magnesium and calcium may be wrong because of the feed, or the bird is unable to properly break these things down in her body body, and she is unable to use these nutrients to put the shell on. It can also be a defective shell gland. This shelless egg issue can stem from genetics...her momma laid shelless eggs.

Give the liquid calcium a try, but it wouldn't hurt to add some high potency vitamins/minerals to the water as well a few times a week. Also so extra A,D, and E would help as well.

Good luck!

Sorry for the delay in replying - been on holiday for a week visiting my son and grandson in Swansea. Hubby stayed and looked after the animals and my girls.

Silverfox - I know Sarah - got my ex-batts from her as well - and did the chicken keeping course with her.

I got three whole eggs yesterday - 2nd time in the last week !!!!

So hopefully I now have the ratio of layers pellets, eggshell improver, spice, crushed eggshell, wild bird seed and garlic correct - along with cider vinegar of course. I did get the liquid calcium - but not used it as have been away - but its here now if needed in the future.

As I am typing this I can hear the egg song being sung loudly and proudly - which will make the second one this morning (its 11am here)

Thank you all for your replies and help - it is much appreciated.
