Another noob ... boy oh boy

Hi and welcome! Make sure other chicks aren't pecking at the poopy butt. That's why vaseline may be better than coconut oil, the latter may actually taste good. Just keep an eye on them. Do not blame yourself for your losses! Baby chicks die, that's why you get extras. It's heartbreaking, I know ... but it's just part of chickening. ❤️

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Definitely stop the oats. They need to survive solely on their chick crumbles for the first month to six weeks before trying anything else. If you want to give them some wet crumbles, they sure love that! We use a plastic peanut butter lid for that, and they all pile onto it.

Pasty butt comes with having chicks. We've got the perfect temp of 95°F when they enter the brooder from the incubator, and a few hours later, one will have it.

I'd try some probiotic powder in their water for their digestive systems. We've used Hydro-Hen, but there are many. If that one still seems like it's got a prolapsed vent, you can use a dab of generic Preparation H on there and hold it in for a minute or two each time you do it, several times a day. We did that with one chick that happened to, and she's now a perfect hen.

We're glad you're here!
