Another other newbies - addicted to this page???

That works?

I have 6, will eventually have 12 hens with a rooster to keep em happy on those lonely nights. So I am lucky enough to need to buy 7 more chicks

I'm definitely a nut. I wish I could figure out a way to raise chickens for a living! lol I grew up with a mom and aunt who were chicken nuts and it rubbed off on me. I have been addicted since the day my mom came home from my aunt's house with a brown paper grocery bag with a baby chick in it. :) I think that was roughly 40 years ago!

We are buying an acreage and will be moving in 2 weeks. I had to beg my fiancee to make a road trip to TSC in Little Falls so I could get a half dozen peeps to brood in a bunny cage while I wait for us to get moved so we can start our "real" flock. lol

The other mantra is "My husband will kill me if I get more!!" Maybe that one works better!!!

We can't let this thread die, its too fun!

Anyone else let their babies go outside to play this week? Here in Ohio we are hitting record temps, and I took advantage of it by making a chick playpen from an old tote and an old birdcage. I laid the tote on its side and then zip tied the cage to the front, in a semi circle, to allow for the babies to stay in the tub for a wind block, but to come out an explore the grass some too. Yesterday they were all kinda scared and did a lot of peeping and huddling, but today they were totally into it! I even put some twigs between the bars so they could practice roosting! They seemed to have so much fun! And, can I mention they are trying to fly now?? What a funny sight! Once one was doing it they all seemed to try it at once, and the collisions were so funny!! I am going to try to finish their grow up brooder that will be in the actual coop this weekend. I am going to keep it inside till I get the inside of the coop better secured, but they will love it I am sure. It will give them enough room to practice flying as much as they want!

This is all so fun!!

My chicks arrive Friday! I have 6 on the way. I built a 20 square feet coop with a 60 square feet run but already chicken math is getting to me! I keep finding layers that produce dark chocolate brown eggs, olive eggs, turquoise eggs. I want I want I want.
