Just wondering...we have a young IB peacock, he's six months old. He has two peahen friends, one is his mother. In the past few days, he's been
strutting his stuff (not that he has much to show yet....!) and flirting with the hens, and this morning he ran at his mother and tried to jump on
to breed with her. She put him in his place and it was funny to see her reaction. :D But isn't he a bit premature? He's not going
to be sexually mature for another year or two, is he? We've had other IB peacocks his age, but when they were his age we didn't have any peahens,
so I don't have any experience with that.

So he is doing this again. He's now a year older. I'm trying to keep a close eye on this, because I don't want him to interbreed with his mother. I also don't want peachicks at all. Should I assume he is fertile now, or not?

We have our Charcoal peahen also who is just a year older than him. I was told that she would be receptive to breeding (even though she should be sterile and won't lay) but I haven't seen her show any interest, although all three of our peafowl are good friends with each other. So will she be receptive to breeding?

Lastly, at what point will his mother stop laying or cease being broody, if ever? She is now 8 years old.

Yes, he is capable of breeding now. I do not know if she will accept him or not, I assume she would but of course, she will not produce any eggs. His mother should stop laying eggs around August or September, maybe sooner. If you mean at what point in life then you have a long wait.

Yeah, I meant at what point in life. She lays eggs all the way through mid to late September, usually.... always has, and ALWAYS goes broody. I'll just pray that she makes her nest where I can easily monitor it. She usually does.
