Another Peafowl ??

I know you all get tons of questions about type and gender....here's another one!

Someone just gave me this Pea.....hmmm cock or hen? And what color might it be? I have it housed with all my chicks and guineas. They seem to be doing well. They all hudle together and it's sooooo cute! Is chick starter ok or do I need to have it on special peafowl food?

from all i have read you need to get it away from the chicks and be feeding it medicated starter. i think the guineas with it is fine but no chickens because for disease.

I can't house them together? OH NO! They have been togther for about 2 weeks. I guess I have some quick learning to do...off to read more....

You are ok, I raise my baby chicks and peafowl together for awhile, until they start to get older. Never lost one from it. I do however keep them housed seperate as soon as I start putting them on the ground, about 3 months old for peachicks.

WHEW! So I am guessing that you separate them because they fight?
Should I worm everyone in that pen just to be safe?

They are housed separately due to disease issues... not fighting. Chickens can get the disease "Blackhead". It may not affect your chickens much, but it can kill your peas. Peas are more fragile than chickens, until they are grown.
I know people in my area that let all their birds free-range together. There are no fights between the birds, but you have to know how to take care of the peas to prevent diseases/parasites.
