Another request to identify unknown quackers from the TSC duck bin

I'd love to see a picture. Our county dump has mountains of free wood chips but I see all these awful bumble foot pictures (like the one today) and the person who rescued the 6 ducks from the hoarder farm on the forum and it freaks me out.

I'll get you a picture tomorrow. I got the wood chips from my local tree service and just loaded the run-up with about 8 inches deep or so. Every now and then, I will turn the chips with a pitchfork to help disperse the waste into the wood chips and to help speed up decomposition. The ducks also enjoy it since there are a plethora of earthworms living in the wood chips. Keeping your bedding dry IMO is essential in preventing bumblefoot in ducks, a wet sloppy run harbors all sorts of nasty stuff.

thanks, I agree! I'll wait until after a rain and put out dry hay into the run. I'm trying to block off sections to grow grass and it's working very well but not going fast enough. I've signed up for "chipdrop" but nothing as of yet. It sure would be nice to just have a load dumped in my yard!

No, this is the half that isn't covered and where they happened to be when I took the pictures. They have a small "barn" they share with the chickens and the other half of the attached pen that's covered.

Just wanted to check, a wet run causes all sorts of problems especially for chickens.

Hey, thanks! that's basically the kind of mulch I can get for free at the dump! I'm going to try that for sure. I just spread the last of what I had in the trailer in my flower beds but there's mountains of it there so I'll be getting more.

They’re so cute! I have a lot of moisture in the run area too, I picked up a bunch of limestone landscape screen to aid in drainage. It seems to work pretty well.
