Another rescue rant....

I can uderstand that they dont want them bred, but they are already fixed so they wont need to worry about that. As far as growing their fur for wool they are going to grow a coat anyhow and at least you know and plan to put in the effort to groom them on a regular basis. They could go into a home where they get no grooming and end up a ball of mats.

I breed Texel cavies and I have people all the time that would rather adopt from me as they have gotten turned away for some small reason at the rescues and while I am also VERY picky on the homes I will allow my babies to go, I am also pretty reasonable and can really tell the people who care and those who dont.

Thats a bummer though, you may just have to let them know that you would have loved to offer their bunnies a great forever home where they would have been well cared for but since you have been turned away a breeder may be the better option to support.

WOW... you think the rescue would know how HARD it is to keep angora rabbit fur in good condition??? and someone that WANTS the fiber WILL keep the fiber in good condition on the rabbit!!! right???
so instead they will adopt the rabbit to a 9 year old little girl with a barbie brush, she will get sick of brushing the rabbit after about a month,, the parents wont care and the rabbit and its fur will be neglected and matted....
only use scissors???? hahahahah and have 10Xs the chance of cutting the rabbits skin wide open.. instead of using a SAFE sized blade on a clipper????
uugghhhh iditots!!!
sorry pine

Yes, it is frustrating.... The woman who runs this rescue has a small farm overcrowded with animals. When we were there she has sheep/cows/horses/turkeys/goats/chickens all running around loose (except her parimeter fence) on less than 2 acres. But my point being, she obviously has a "farm" you'd think she's be supportive...

Oh well. I got some good and unexpected news this morning. My goat breeder use to spin and she had a show quality French Angora buck with papers. When we were talking and I telling her that I planned to get sheep for wool because I'm crazy knitter, she told me about her rabbit and asked if I wanted to have him, for free!
I'm going to bring him home next Teusday when I go out to visit my goaties.

This is not a rescue obviously, with such an abundance of ainimals you are looking at a hoarder.
I would suggest call the AG dept ALL rescues have to be licensed through the AG dept.

There is a chicken rescue here in MN and they go on and on about how hatcheries are the devil and they want us to take these great pets, but then you have to pass an interview and an application to see if youre even elligible to think about having a pet chicken. in that amount of time I could have just gotten 60 chicks from the evil hatchery... its not worth it!

Don't feel bad, I tried to adopt a dog from a breed-specific rescue once and was denied. I felt HORRIBLE. They referred us to some breeders, but I really wanted to adopt a dog without a home.

I adopted the girl in my icon, and she has brought so much joy to our lives.

I'm glad that it worked out well in your case too.
