I just totally read that wrong in connection with the other posts!

so all i had was blueberry yougert, i took it out there and she turned her nose up to it. she normally loves any yougert she can get her beak into. so i put some on my finger and scraped a little on the tip of her beak she ate that down no problem. did this for about 30 mins. she pooped and it looks like store bought egg yokes!!!!. checked abdomin again and it feels tight but no egg????? i do believe she is a much older hen, i haven't seen her use a nest box in months. it is gonna suck to lose her she is my sweetest girl

If her lower abdomen feels tight she may have fluid retention, aka ascites. Has various causes, none good or fixable including egg laying/reproductive tract problems, egg yolk peritonitis, heart/circulatory system problems, liver/kidney problems or cancers or other tumors. If that's what she has the fluid can be drained by a vet or you can learn to do so yourself but, while it will make her more comfortable, it does not solve the underlying cause and the fluid always comes back. Sometimes these hens go on like this for a long time, other times they die pretty quickly, depending on the cause and whether or not they have peritonitis

Good luck with her, hope you are able to figure her out.

i refuse to let her suffer. how do i know if this is what is going on? how long should i give her to see if she heals on her own. i don't want to cull her when my kids are home. as they love her dearly. ugh.

When they have ascites their lower abdomen, like from between the legs on back and even up the sides, will feel larger then it should and will feel tight. When it gets advanced they will waddle and their toes will even turn in. Check a healthy bird carefully so you can compare, if she's swollen up with fluid you'll likely be able to tell the difference quickly.

It could be or it could be that she has some kind of bacterial infection. Does she indeed feel swollen in her abdomen? The fact that she has not be laying for a long time is a concern. I would still definitely get her/them dewormed as mentioned previously.
