A few years back when we moved here our nieghbors across the street kept all of there 4 dogs in this tiny kennel outside and never walked them.Last month I was doing yardwork for a lady who lives next to them and saw that they had 2 ponies a horse and a goat to!!!The poor animals barly have room to even walk there constantly walking in there own manure and they dont even get sun!!!ITs all shaded in by these giant pines. And now there letting there savage dogs run about the street.I just heard one jingling its colar so I got the broom and threw it at it.Theres been only two so far that have gone in my yard once. And im afraid to go up there drivway and to there house couse theres all these dogs runnin around there.Im goin to walmart with my dad today and im gonna get some pellets for my pellet gun.

Why don't you ask your dad to talk to them? or call animal control? There are usually leash laws in most areas, and they should be made to follow those laws.

I have found Animal Control (AC) to be very helpful. You could talk to them about the loose dogs and also take the opportunity to mention that you believe the neighbors' other animals are being kept in substandard living conditions. That way AC can go check out the situation and decide whether they need to step in or not.

I have seen animals kept in Godawful conditions on a few occasions and the majority of the times the owners are not being deliberately cruel, but they are ignorant of what they should be doing to care for their animals. AC can help in these cases. They can educate the owners, or offer to assist in re-homing the animals to a more suitable environment.

But, AC is suffering from a lack of resources like everyone else and can't be proactive in searching out offenders, so they depend on folks in the community to keep them informed of problems. I strongly recommend contacting them about your neighbors. They keep their informants' names confidential.

Good luck.

I've seen some dogs complete ignore being shot with a pellet gun. If you are afraid of the dogs and they are wandering about, pepperspray is a more viable self protection solution. If you get pepper spray, learn how to use it. Blow back in the face is unpleasant.

I agree with the advice to address the problem rather than waiting for it to escalate into something more serious.

Agreed. A lab was attacking my chickens and I shot it at point-blank range with a BB gun... it didn't even flinch. I fired 4 shots into it's backside before giving up and using the .22 rifle. If I'd had pepper spray, that might have worked.

I agree with those above - contact Animal Control. Animals aren't able to speak up for themselves.

Make sure that your pets are taken care of in preditor proof coop/run. If its not the neighbor's dog, it could be some other preditor looking for chicken dinner.

Good luck to you.
