Another theory on sexing chicks...

This one may get a few laughs but here we go anyways...

Last night a buddy of DH's was here while I was collecting eggs and he pointed to one and said "that right there is a rooster'. Hmm. I just cant let that comment go by so I say 'Really? How do you know?'

He tells me that he used to help a relative with his game roosters...aka cock fighting...*cringing at the thought* but anyways he goes on to tell me that eggs with 'pointy' tips are roosters and eggs with round tips are hens.

I suppressed the urge to giggle and closed my jaw to avoid flies entering and let the conversation dwindle.

But in the light of day and in light of the other thread on sexing chicks....maybe this is worth a try...just for fun of course...*wink*

Any thoughts other than the thought that I am very gullible out there? Laughter is permitted

I just hatched 4 under a broody, and all 4 were rounded...2 were roos, who calmly lay on their backs in my hand with both legs down, but I forgot to spin a needle over them...

With all the money and expense in hatching chickens and the high demand for females, if there were a way to determine sex by looking at the egg, the hatcheries would be hatching mainly rounded eggs and you would be buying pointy eggs from the grocery store.

I say, "BUSTED".

Oh! How could I have forgotten the needle? Especially since in desperation I once 'dowsed' for water for our well placement....lol

We have two hens that ONLY lay round eggs. I went to set them in the bator and had no idea which end was which. Had to candle after a few days to find the air cell. There's no way that every egg they lay is a female (although I sure wish it was true!)

I love stuff like this. I actually tried the needle and it was 100% accurate on all my family and pets. I tried it on my 2 chicks and was greatly encouraged when they both proved to be pullets. 3 months later, my BO "pullet" crows and has a beautiful arching tail.
