I'd recommend asking her respectfully to talk to you abou the germs, instead of talking to your son. It probably wouldn't be good to talk to her about it when you're all steamed up.
There are a lot of people who think that chickens are dirty, though, and when they're not telling a five year old that they're dirty, it can be pretty funny.
My piano teacher and I were looking at a program for the upcoming recital, and two of her other students that I know well were playing a duet called The Red Rooster. I asked if Sammie had chosen it, because she loves her rooster to death, and we got to talking about chickens. When I mentioned that 'King' plays dead on Sammie's lap, she said, 'They hold their chickens? No wonder those kids get sick so often.' I told her that I have chickens and used to bring them in the house quite a bit, and she sighed, rolled her eyes, shook her head, gave me up as beyond hope, and switched the conversation back to piano.
