Anti inflammatory for chickens

I've been giving our chicken Meloxicam which is actually an anti-inflammatory for dogs. The dosage depends on the size of your chicken. Ours is quite a big Isa Brown and she's been taking 3ml. :)

Ditto on Meloxicam for dogs (the product I bought was Loxicom), for our big girl Chicca (2.5 kg) and her swollen/infected leg the vet prescribed 1 drop a day, I gave it to her on a piece of bread.

Thanks all I will try the aspirin. Two of my DC roosters decided to fight over a new hen and the head is pretty swollen, eyes shut and all. He is doing better today. Thanks

aspirin dosage

"The solution aspirin equivalent to 25 grains/gallon or 324 mg/gallon of drinking water."

If it says 324 mg per gallon how can that be 5 tablets that are 325 mg each?

25 grains per gallon would be 5 tablets, I realize.

Just confused. Enlighten me someone?

An aspirin is 5 grains.

Thanks- I found that on wikipedia - but my question is related to the following quote from the msu website:
"The solution aspirin equivalent to 25 grains/gallon or 324 mg/gallon of drinking water."

How can it be 324mg per gallon when we are adding FIVE 325mg tablets?

I did email them.

Is meloxicam better to use than aspirin and can you administer it for longer?

I have a hen with possible hip fracture or at least some serious bruising and the aspirin has been great in making her comfortable to eat

However this will be a long time healing, possibly a few weeks and I know aspirin is only good to use for up to three days.
