So I am trying to treat our 6 month old peacock for his sinus infection. I have read that Baytril works well for sinus infections in peafowl, and since I have some, I decided to try it. It's working very well day 2., and I can give it to him in a treat and he eats it and it's fine. But there's a lot of variance in recommendations on how long to give it, (how many days) so I decided to ask our four leg vet (who has some poultry knowledge but does not routinely treat poultry) what he would recommend. I left a message for him. He left a message back that I should definitely NOT give Baytril to baby peafowl. But I don't know the definition of "baby" and I can't reach him now. Would this be anything under a year old? and is this true? He says it will damage their joints. I've been giving him 1 1/2 22.7 mg tablets per day. If I can't give Baytril, what would be next best? Tylan? I will have to ask the vet for a scrip for it, since it's not available otc anymore.
