I have searched and searched and am having trouble finding information about which antibiotics are safe for ducks. I have a call duckling who is panting and I want to be prepared for a respiratory infection. Other than going to the vet for Baytril, is there anything else I can give him/her if this progresses? Duramycin (tetracycline), Gallimycin (erythromycin), Tylan?

This one is panting inside actually. They are about 2 weeks old and their enclosure is around 85 degrees.

I want to have something on hand just in case since we are going out of town and bringing these babies with us.

My Khaki Campbell's panted occasionally when the were young too. I freaked out at first, but after doing research I decided just to watch them closely for a while. I've heard about other people having this problem, and it almost seems like a "phase" they seem to go through. Try making their heat lamp farther away and see if that helps. I don't know about the antibiotics though. Good luck.

I have heard (if I recall correctly) of people using some form of tetracycline. I don't know a whole lot about antibiotics and the proper dosages. There is this site, but it doesn't have duckling dosages.
