Hello. My hen has been ill for a week and a half. I suspect it's salpigitis and possibly a little egg yolk peritonitis. She is lethargic, droopy, but still willing to eat and drink, albeit at a lesser rate. Her abdomen is large and squishy like a water balloon, and I have seen what seems to be lash material in her poop. Her comb is a little purple in tint, and her crop seems normal. In the beginning, before I had determined what I thought was wrong with her, I added vitamin/probiotic mix to the flock's water and made some calcium cakes for her. I have also been giving her Epsom salt baths. By now, she is quarantined in a different part of the yard with her own water, in which I have added tylosin powder as an antibiotic and a small amount of limestone reduced to powder integrated into her feed. On hand I have sulfamexothazole-trimethoprim and meloxicam for human consumption in pill form, and I was wondering if it would be safe and helpful to give that to her, being that this will not be of a veterinarian's accord. If it is acceptable, how would I administer it to her, and if you know, in what dosage?
