antibiotics how long can u eat eggs after using them

I am new to this so can i ask what the reason/risk is for not eating the eggs when the chickens are on antibiotics?
Thanks

There is no definitive answer to this question. Depends on which country you come from. In Australia it is the vets legal obligation to inform you that the bird is not to be used for food, that includes eggs.
In the USA I believe that the use of antibiotics in poultry, along with beef and pork industry are in for a bit of a 'shake up '. The continued low dose of antibiotics in our food chain is thought to be creating a resistance to antibiotics in human medicine.

Thank you for the information it was very helpful. I have chickens molting right now and some are being plucked by the rest and eating the feathers. I just started feeding them pumkins that has real good protein in them. I heard during the molting season it is recommended and during a bad winter too. I though antibiotics for week or so may help the picked on hens- what do you think? should it still take 3 weeks to get rid of the antibiotics in there system that short amount of time I would give it to them?

I withdrawal eggs till 15 days.. Is it too early QueenMisha?? Do I need to increase my withdrawal time??

My answer would be... it's probably fine. Exact recommended withdrawal varies by antibiotic (and sadly, there aren't a whole lot of studies regarding antibiotic withdrawals in laying hens so if you go off label it's often a guessing game). Personally I see egg withdrawals as a precaution only - follow it as well as you can, but if you eat an egg too early by accident on something, it's not gonna kill ya. The reason for egg withdrawals is generally so that you don't ingest any antibiotics the hen may have passed to her eggs. So worst case, you might end up with a little unnecessary antibiotics in your body. Not great to do regularly but generally not a huge issue.

birds that are deficient in amino acid/methionine will have poor feathering and often resort to eating their own feathers and that of their fellow flock members to satisfy the cravings for methionine. I would be checking your feed bags for additives and perhaps consider adding a good poultry multi vitamin to the water.
Flaxseeds are a good source of methionine.

Unless you are allergic to what the birds were given. If it is a penicillin type antibiotic and you or someone you give the eggs too has an allergic reaction they can get really sick.
