Antibiotics

We just put a new flock of babies outside in a separate "baby coop" with a small run apart from our big chickens. The last time we put a new set of babies outside, one of them got sick and died even though we put antibiotics in the water. It was a turkey chick. My husband wants to know if we should put antibiotics in the water of these new babies as a preventative. Knowing what I know about antibiotics I do not think that is a good idea, but need some input.

no u should not give it to them they r to young for it and not sick. if u use it when they don't need it they will become immune to it. that stuff is too strong for chicks. sometimes moveing them stresses enough to kill an adult so it very well could cause a chick to die from it also. if i remember right i'm not sure if u r suppost to use that on turkeys i don't think u are but a turkey breeder could answer that better.

Thanks--That is what I figured too. Just like people, don't use antibiotics unless you absolutely need too!
