I saw that the shape was different in the original post. I thought the basic construction may be the same. Hopefully someone can help you out.
I would put the hand warmers under a towel or piece of fleece so no nails or beaks can poke them.

Wishing you the best in getting it up and running. Before your chicks arrive. The one that I have keeps chicks plenty warm, out in my unheated coop. Even during February and March.
