I've got a stoneware waterer, but I've never seen a feeder like that.

It may be a waterer. It would be really hard to fill it up if it was a feeder.

the knob on top comes off. I don't think it's a waterer cuz the water woukd leak out, no vaccuum

Here's a picture of my waterer....you put a pan over it and flipped it over and the vacumn kept the water from all leaking out. I found it in my in-laws junk pile years ago.
