antique help please

The other day I was browsing an antique store, and saw something I haven't seen in many many years. It was a video player that ( I believe) came out before VCRs did. The video you put in was HUGE!! It was square in shape, flat, and at least the size of a record, if not bigger. You put it in like a vcr tape, into the machine, which looked like a vcr.

I have a couple of pics, but they aren't very good. So I will wait on those to see if anyone knows what I am trying to describe here. I'd like to know what they are called, and Google isn't helping much. Thank you!

My first thought was BetaMax, but they weren't that big. Next thought is a laser disk player?

Sounds like a Laser Disk, I remember renting one....... back in 1985!! That makes me ancient!

Laser Disk is the first "early" version that comes to my mind.
Late 70's early 80's stuff. There were a few different versions
by different companys, but about all the same. Played a large
flat silver record-like disc.

Memory tells me there was a commercial-use version of the VHS
style player that played a larger than home-use video tape. New
car dealers in the early 80's had them? Big bulky machine that set
in the showrooms.

Then came the VHS days? I think...

But I also remember eight-tracks in cars. And before that...we all had
to buy little FM converter things that went in the cigar lighter.

And in the beginning....cars didn't even COME with a radio. None at all.
Back in the day, options included radio, heater(yes, the heater), wipers
were a useful option. Carpet & headliner were options also. Along with
rear bumpers on trucks. Oh...and seatbelts...they were an option until
about 1968-69 if I remember right. Along with cigar lighters and interior
lights.

And BTY...those weren't antiques when we bought them.

It sounds like a laser disk. The disks were like a huge CD and came in a big flat box like an LP record.

And I remember the wipers that were only on the driver's side that you turned with the little button lever at the top of the windsheild.. no motors there!

Just because something was around in the 80's does not mean it's an antique.
