AntiqueB 2026: a 365 project thread

Peck was off to the vet for her ongoing bumblefoot issues. I treated her for a couple months, and got one foot cured before winter set in. My chickens don't live with me, and they don't have electricity in their garden (or water during winter), so treating became a bit difficult. One foot recurred, and another infection sprang up between her toes. She's healthy otherwise, and my last OC (original chicken!) so she gets the vet. Peeper accompanied her as emotional support.

What did the vet say?

The recurrence they treated is healing. Th infection between the toes needs antibiotics, if not surgery. I will try antibiotics first: clavimox 2x a day for 10 days. If that doesn't work, I'm back to soaking in Tricide Neo daily. I can't justify $3000 for surgery.

That sounds like a solid plan. Like you, I couldn't justify $3k either.

you'd want peck to get bionic feet for $3k!

Every year, our local zoo has a "Let It Glow" event to fundraise. It runs from early December through the beginning of January. I always get tickets for January; the holidays are over, and it's such a fast letdown. This gives us somewhere to go that's still festive.

That's beautiful!

Before Christmas break, I was talking to a student who said that for him, Christmas was more about what has been lost than anything else. And I can see the bittersweet aspects of the season for sure. Take, for example, this ornament:

I remember buying it with my mom in a small nursery few miles down the street from my house. I must have been maybe 6. We sometimes got our trees there, too. One year, the twine holding the trunk closed broke, and I remember going over a usually-fun bump at an intersection sooo slowly.

So much is gone: my parents, the nursery, the old car, even the bump at the intersection is unattainable due to a stop sign. But so much has happened that is good, too: my child, my house, new Christmas memories.

The season is almost over, the tree will be taken down shortly. Next year, though, will be another opportunity to both remember fondly and create times to look back on in later years.
