antisocial barred rock

I have a deep down feeling that chick is a rooster but didn't know when I would find out. She is vocal and different sounds than the other chicks. I won't be able to keep him because of the neighborhood, all the houses are close together. I do have a friend that will take him if I have to let him go. It will surely be hard for me to get rid of him, didn't think a chicken would become as dear to me as our
family cat.....

All their combs are bright red....don't tell me I have a bunch of guys on my hands....

Secondhandrose, I have four barred rocks and they are 22 weeks today. They all have very red combs but they are small. I sure hope yours doesn't turn out to be a rooster, and believe me, you do get attached to them! We have two RIR, two columbian rocks and the 4 BRs. One of our BRs keeps away from the rest also. I think she is at the bottom of the pecking order but even in the coop and run, the others don't attack her. They just squawk at her. Reminds me of Cinderella's mean stepsisters. She just waits till they finish and then she eats, and she ranges by herself. It is in my nature to protect one getting bullied or picked on...its so hard not to!

Hopefully, your red combs are on girls getting ready to lay!

The photo I posted on page one of this thread is of bantams, but LF should have similar comb/ wattle characteristics @ +/- 5 mos.

Don't give up!
