What are some GOOD free virus scanners that aren't a virus themselves?

I am using Avast! on my Windows XP image. I may have to remove Macafee from my native XP installation and install Avast! on it. It sure seems like it is a lot less obtrusive than Macafee.

AVG and SpyBot. My hubby is an IT guy that those are all he will use.

I use http://www.free-av.com/ and have for years. Low memory hog and gets things others don't.

Someone on here told me of some before, but when I went to the site my IE had a warning pop up that the site was also linked to several viruses. Needless to say, I high-tailed it out of there. I'll be getting my Norton renewed soon

I run the Glary several times a times a day, takes about 90 seconds. It cleans up internet tracks, it has the ability to encrypt files for you, and it has a file shredder making it harder for people to recover stuff you've deleted. Its awesome

I let AVG run by itself at midnight (it just ran) every night.

Avg free is all you'll need and a good anti malware program is Malwarebytes and spybot.

It doesn't have an active scanner, but it's one of the best clean up tools around.
