I have ants crawling throught the litter of my coop. It's not tons but it's enough to realize it. Is this ok? I know that chickens eat ants but mine don't seem to notice them that i know of. They might. I'm just afraid that the ants might make an ant bed under the litter.

ANY advise would be helpful. Thank you.

Sprinkle Sevin dust in their shavings and in the boxes. It doesn't harm the chickens and actually kills chicken mites, but will also kill the ants! You can buy a bag at walmart for under $5 in the lawn and garden section(in powder form)!

I had ants outside my run and I turned the girls loose on them....guess who was not interested. I put some DE on them and they are DOA today and it is safe for the chicks. Just make sure to get food grade.

I saw ants in my coop litter also...the chickens don't seem to care about them. I sprinkled food grade DE in there and now there are a lot less ants. I wasn't sure how much DE to use, so I just dusted everything lightly (shavings, roosts, nest boxes), and I'll probably put more in there to get rid of the rest of the ants.
